Scholar Dollar Store

We visited the scholar dollar store today! Some students spent all of their money, a few students spent some of their money and a couple are saving their money for something REALLY expensive. Check your students backpack and see what they bought.

Third Grade Buddies

We visited our third grade buddies today. We read the book "Martin's Big Words". We talked about how Martin Luther King Jr. had powerful words. We then made a collage of words around our picture to make our own "big words".

Strategy for Addition

I know addition or adding can be difficult for some students and the "finger method" or counting on fingers doesn't always work. So I though I would pass this along to those of you who could use the help at home.

Step 1: Figure out which number is the bigger or larger number.

Step 2: Put the bigger number in your head (actually point to your head and say that number)
Step 3: Put out the fingers that represent the smaller or other number.

Step 4: With the bigger number in your head (pointing) and the smaller on your fingers begin with 6...
Step 5: ... and count on your fingers 7, 8. That is your answer!!!!

That is it! Good luck practicing this at home :).

Events Tomorrow

This week in class we are going to be spending some time talking about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the inauguration. With events on tv and in the community on Monday, it's a great opportunity to introduce it to your students before we dive into the material in class. Thank you and happy learning!

Meet Ms. Lindsay

My name is Lindsay Deegan and this is my first time working as a paraprofessional. I have enjoyed working at South Pointe with Kindergarten children. I am looking forward to assisting in Ms. Demsky’s room and watching each student learn. I have been working as a nanny for six years and have an associate’s degree in Healthcare Administration. I hope in the future to continue a profession with children in a pediatric setting of healthcare!

Hello Families

As we prepare to come back from break, don't forget to start to get your students to bed a little earlier then they may have during break. This will help us especially on the first few days back to keep our focus the entire school day!

I've missed you all! I have had a very relaxing break. Some of my favorite things I did was go to the Toledo Zoo to see the lights and celebrate the baptism of a friend's baby! I can't wait to see everyone's smiling faces Monday.
